Father's Day Scavenger Hunt

First of all, welcome to the shops that have joined the team! Everyone is making this so much fun. I feel like there is a celebration every day - probably because there is.

I told the team I would try to talk you through the steps I use to make a Scavenger Hunt Treasury. It's certainly not the only way to do it and maybe not even the best way, but it will give you some ideas. The treasuries that I have seen posted so far are just beautiful and done exactly right, so I don't even think my little commentary is needed!

Here's the link for the treasury that I made and in the picture you can see a portion of it.

The first thing I did was to go to Vivian's shop, Egg Money Quilts, and I picked out an item that I thought would go with my "manly" treasury. I selected her lovely star quilt. Her shop is the required shop this time and goes in the first space.

I typically go to the other words in any order I please. I decided to put a vintage twist on my treasury as a memory of my father and the things he did and liked. Normally, selection would be easier because I would just be working with the word and Etsy choices and maybe considering color or style. This time I also considered that the items relate to my Dad.

All of these things I'm doing using the search at the top of the screen on Etsy and then just scrolling through items. If I don't see something I like, I try different words. For example, with emotion I tried "man emotion" and "man sculpture" and "father of the bride" and "new dad". ( I knew that word would be hard!)

I actually looked for the word "emotion" first. No big surprise, there is not a lot that relates to men under emotion. I finally decided there might be a picture of a new dad showing emotion so I went with that and found an item I liked. Then I tried "manly." For most of my life, my Dad smoked a pipe. I thought that was quite manly and had good luck finding the pipes displayed in a pipe stand. For feet, I thought about the argyle socks that my Dad would wear and there weren't many pairs of argyle socks, but I found one.
Next was "barbecue." My Dad was the one who manned the grill and always liked his meat well-done, not rare or even medium for him, so I found the sign that says "Only Sissies Grill on Low." Love it! For textured, my Dad wore plaid flannel shirts a lot, so I looked for those.

"Adventure" was on the list twice thanks to me not paying enough attention, but that's okay - Dad can have two adventures! My Dad was in the military in World War II and he traveled and met lots of people who were so different from those he knew in his home, so that is the first adventure I went with. I looked for a photo of World War II and found that fantastic plane. The other adventure was my parents lived in Buffalo, NY, when the Blizzard of 1977 hit; and I found vintage glasses with news about the blizzard. Wow! Now I'll try to do the rest of the words in order or I'll forget something.

"Exercise" - my Dad got so much exercise with his work that I can't ever remember him just exercising for the sake of exercising, but we did have a big garden and he definitely got exercise doing that and enjoyed it, too so I found the sign about gardening. For "relaxation" I pictured my Dad watching our old black and white TV and looked for that. "Sports" - he liked to watch wrestling on TV and I found a vintage wrestling belt buckle and used it. "Travel" in the 1950's and the decade after involved going places in the car so there's a vintage car. "Award" - I looked for a Father's Day trophy. As for "Smart", I always think of my Dad as "Mr. Fix It" - he tried to repair anything that broke and usually could do it even if it meant making his own part. "Communication" - yes, I looked for a vintage telephone. For "father" I used a Happy Father's Day plaque. Interestingly, most of the Father's Day listings seemed to use "Dad" instead of "Father" so I was happy to find "father" on the item I selected. If you prefer to use an item that says or conveys dad that is totally fine, too.

I hope this is of some help. As I typed it I got the feeling it is so personal to my Dad that it may not be of my help in making a generic scavenger hunt treasury.  Please, if anyone has any questions about how to make them, just convo me and ask. They really are so much fun!

One other thing I wanted to pass along is how you can pin your treasury on Pinterst. You can go to the site listed below and it has a button to click on that adds it right to your Pinterest board. A handy resource.
I posted my Father's Day Treasury on my board. I hope to add some treasuries you made for the team, too.
